Paul Furfaro appointed Acting President and CEO of the SQDC

Montreal, June 1, 2021 – The Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) announces the appointment of Paul Furfaro as Acting President and Chief Executive Officer following the departure of Jean-François Bergeron to head Loto-Québec.

Paul Furfaro joined the SQDC in January 2018 and has held the position of Director, Store Operations since November of the same year. He had a ringside seat when the store network bagan operations on October 17, 2018. Before joining the SQDC, Mr. Furfaro spent a dozen years working for a multinational in Canada and the United Kingdom, where he held management positions in digital marketing, business development, price strategy and brand development.

Led by the SQDC Board of Directors, the recruitment process for the company’s next head is under way. In the meantime, the SQDC will continue diligently and efficiently implementing its strategic plan in keeping with its mission to protect consumers’ health.

The SQDC is a government corporation mandated to distribute and sell cannabis in Quebec with a focus on protecting customers’ health and safety. The company is committed to offering quality products and informing and advising consumers on how to minimize the health impacts of cannabis use. The long-term goal is to shrink the illegal cannabis market in Quebec. By law, all of the SQDC’s profits are remitted to the Cannabis Prevention and Research Fund, which is managed by the Quebec Finance Department, and reinvested primarily in cannabis-related prevention and research.
