SQDC to temporarily extend same-day delivery service to Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Mirabel and Saint-Jérôme

Montreal, December 12, 2022 – To improve accessibility to legal, lower-risk cannabis products for customers living in some of the areas affected by the ongoing strike, the Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) plans to temporarily extend its same-day delivery service to the municipalities of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Mirabel and Saint-Jérôme. The new service should be available before for the holidays.

This additional delivery option will enable the SQDC to better serve its customers and fulfill its mission to protect public health and safety in these areas, where the opening hours of SQDC stores have been reduced due to the strike.

Once the new service is launched, customers in these areas will be able to order products on SQDC.ca before 4 p.m. and have them delivered later that evening between 6 and 10 p.m. The service will be available seven days a week and cost $9 per order.

The following postal codes are included in the service extension:

  • Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu: J2W, J2X, J2Y, J3A, J3B
  • Mirabel: J7J, J7N
  • Saint-Jérôme: J5L, J7Y, J7Z

All other delivery options for the area remain available. These include delivery by Canada Post, offered across Quebec at $5 per order. For more information, visit our website.

About the ongoing labour dispute

The SQDC has 92 stores, more than half of which are ununionized and 68 of which are operating on their normal schedule. The current labour dispute affects only 24 of the 26 stores represented by CUPE.

At present, the main outstanding issue between the parties remains pay as all standards-related issues were settled months ago. It should be noted that all SQDC advisors, except those working in CUPE-represented stores, have qualified for an hourly starting pay of $19.01 since July 3, 2022.

In addition, on December 20, the employees of seven of the 17 stores represented by the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) will enter the second year of their collective agreement, with their hourly starting pay increasing to $19.39. The employees of the 58 other stores will also see their hourly starting pay rise to $19.39 in the coming months.

The SQDC continues to hope for a negotiated agreement acceptable to both parties. The company remains available at all times and is ready to return to the bargaining table and resume talks as soon as the parties are summoned by the conciliator.

In the meantime, the SQDC is taking action to maintain customer service in all its stores, including those affected by the strike, which remain open but on a reduced schedule. Customers also continue to have access to online shopping on SQDC.ca and can use any of the delivery options available in their area. Information about the reduced opening hours will be found on the SQDC website.

In June, the SQDC reached an agreement with the CSN and the 17 stores it represents. The CSN subsequently published a news release (in French) regarding the agreement: https://www.csn.qc.ca/actualites/les-employe-es-de-la-sqdc-syndiques-a-la-csn-acceptent-lentente-de-principe/
