5 years ago, the SQDC came to life. And we've built our success together from the ground up.
As we mark our 5th anniversary, we're shining a spotlight on our pioneers, who have been with us since the very beginning, as well as on those who make the difference every day to better accomplish our mission.
Yannick Poulin, our Digital Strategy Specialist, dives back into SQDC’s evolving ambitions for its web platform.

On October 17, 2018, 300,000 people witnessed the birth of SQDC.ca by visiting the website. It’s as if the entire city of Gatineau went online on the same day to check out our products and content!
At the time, we offered a few hundred products online, with home delivery in three to five business days. The products from our 12 stores weren’t yet available online. Spoiler alert: we’ve grown quite a bit since then!
Once the dust had settled from the launch, the eCommerce team rolled up its sleeves and got back to work. In the two years following legalization, we made products from all our stores available online, let customers select their favourite store using the My Store feature and started offering same-day express delivery.
In 2021, we went into overdrive: not only did we launch the same-day express delivery service, we developed an online content strategy, including the Tips and Advice section. We also put a lot of effort into simplifying the online purchasing process.
On April 20, 2022, we rolled out our in-store pick up service and online advice chatbot. These were pivotal developments for SQDC.ca. On the one hand, our advisors were now at the heart of our delivery and pick-up strategy. On the other, advisors could now interact with customers anywhere in Québec via the website.
Another major enhancement followed in 2022 with the launch of a 90-minute delivery service in several regions.
Right now, in 2023, the eCommerce team is building a new version of the Web platform. .
With maturity comes nostalgia. Our fifth anniversary has inspired all of us to look back and appreciate what we’ve accomplished. At the same time, technology and the digital realm continue to change rapidly, leaving us no choice but to embrace the future. What will we remember on future anniversaries?
In nine years, our ivory anniversary, SQDC.ca will have been online for 14 years. We strongly believe that the website will be a top source of information for cannabis users, and almost all of our customers will visit SQDC.ca at one time or another during the purchasing process.
Technology will also allow us to facilitate human contact. Our advisors will take a more prominent role on our Web platform, and they’ll be closer to our customers than ever before.
Looking to a more distant future, 55 years from now on our emerald anniversary, SQDC.ca will probably be available through your contact lenses, on your refrigerator’s display or as a hologram projected by your wristwatch. No matter where technology takes us, we’ll follow our customers and their needs as we continue to fulfill our mission.
