Three Flourishing Portraits at the SQDC

5 years ago, the SQDC came to life. And we've built our success together from the ground up.

As we mark our 5th anniversary, we're shining a spotlight on our pioneers, who have been with us since the very beginning, as well as on those who make the difference every day to better accomplish our mission.

Over the last five years, our industry has grown, and our people too. See how three members of our big family have flourished and excelled and are working every day to achieve their full potential.

In 2017: “All other tasks” related to Project Olive

Today: Expertise Director, People and Culture

Before officially joining the SQDC, I spent many happy years at the SAQ, where I had several lives. From the SAQ laboratory to investment project management to labour relations – definitely not your typical human resources career path!

I was still at the SAQ when I first plunged into the world of the SQDC. From the start, Project Olive’s mission was to quickly set up an all-new government corporation. My role at the time? ‘All other tasks’ related to the project, from checking the first product photos provided by suppliers to preparing presentations on our proposed business model to show to the government. The entire period was completely unreal!

I officially joined the SQDC team in March 2021 as a senior advisor in labour relations and OHS. In the years since, I’ve had the good fortune to be able to work with people who trust me and who appointed me head of labour relations and OHS and now expertise director. I’ve also been lucky to work with an incredible team that I see growing every day, and that’s the thing that makes me proudest about my job. In return, they make me a better manager through their feedback, commitment and authenticity.

To celebrate this important milestone, let’s keep bringing the SQDC’s values to our teams and to our customers every day.

In 2018: Advisor at the Rue Sainte-Catherine store from day 1 of legalisation

Today: Manager, Boulevard Newman (LaSalle) store

Before joining the SQDC, I trained to become a programmer. Then I changed my career orientation to customer service. I spent a total of seven years at the Bell Centre, holding various positions in various departments, including the arena’s private restaurants and luxury suites.

In 2018 I began my career at the SQDC as an advisor at the Rue Sainte-Catherine store in downtown Montréal. I was there from the first day of legalization and I was immediately attracted to the new world of the Québec cannabis market. The opportunities to be found in this growing industry led me to follow my dreams at the SQDC. Before long, I was promoted to team leader and then, in the summer of 2019, worked as assistant manager at the Rue Peel store, where I stayed until the winter of 2021.

Throughout my career, I’ve received a ton of support and have been able to inspire my fellow team members. My managers have always been there for us and have encouraged me along the way by giving me significant responsibilities. I’d also like to thank my colleagues. They inspire me and lead me to embody the SQDC’s four values every day. My ambition is to keep learning and to train and support as many people as possible in my future work.

On this, its fifth anniversary, my wishes for the SQDC are clear: more customers who choose us over the illegal market, more stores and more employees!

In 2018: Advisor at the Lévis store

Today: Advisor, Operational Efficiency

Before arriving at the SQDC, I spent several years in retail. As soon as legalization was announced and even before the SQDC existed, I wanted to get involved in this budding industry. At the time, I imagined myself opening a dispensary or becoming a producer. I’d even started putting together a business plan! When the SQDC was created, I knew it was where I wanted to be, especially given all my past experiences.

I started as an advisor at the Lévis store before moving on to become an assistant manager in Chicoutimi and later Beauport. In March 2021, I was promoted to manager of the Val-Bélair store, a position I later held at Québec City’s Quatre-Bourgeois and Chemin Sainte-Foy stores.

During my career at the SQDC, I’ve been fortunate to work with more than 100 wonderful people. Each encounter and experience has made my professional and personal life richer, and I want to thank every one of those people.

Lastly, my most valuable lessons relate to my own growth. I’d like to thank the SQDC for its Propulsion training program, which made it clear to me that my motivation comes from mental stimulation and the desire to be useful to others.

For the SQDC’s fifth anniversary, my wish is that we continue to grow as we have over the last five years. I’m really proud and delighted to be part of the drive to achieve all the good things the future holds for us.
